Hip and joint problems
Pain in the hip, groin or thigh — especially when walking, climbing stairs or getting up from a chair — can come from the hip joint itself. Degenerative conditions such as osteoarthritis can affect the hip and other joints over time.
Assessment
Examination of movement and gait, and X-ray of the joint, usually show how much the joint is affected.
Treatment options
Early stages are usually managed with medicines, weight management, activity changes and physiotherapy. When the joint is badly damaged and pain limits daily life despite these measures, joint replacement may be considered.
