Fracture care
Not every fracture is the same. The type of break, where it is, and whether the pieces have moved decide the treatment.
- Plaster or splint is often enough for simple, stable fractures.
- Surgery may be needed for complex, displaced or unstable fractures.
Sprain or fracture?
A sprain is a stretched or torn ligament; a fracture is a crack or break in the bone. Severe pain, marked swelling or bruising, deformity, or being unable to bear weight are reasons to be examined and X-rayed.
Avoid massage on a suspected fracture
Massage or untrained manipulation of a broken bone can move the fragments, damage blood vessels and nerves, and lead to the bone healing in the wrong position. Please see an orthopedic doctor first.
